Tate needs a new home!

17 month old parti colored neutered male Standard poodle needs loving home!

Meet “Tate”, aka Paint Me Tic Tac Toes

Sometimes our heart goes before our heads, and we bring home a dog that didn’t have the best in early puppyhood, and he may not turn out to mesh well with other dogs in the home. This is what happened when we brought Tate home not long after Hudson died last year, and at a time when my health was not up to working with him to help make up for what he missed in his first few months. As a rule, I believe in purchasing pups from ethical show breeders or adopting from reputable rescues, but I simply saw a pup who, when young looked like Huddy, the heart dog I had lost, and my husband and I let our hearts overrule our heads! We did what I always tell others not to do!

But, Tate LOVES people, and he loves playing with our champion boy Brodie as long as Brodie doesn’t get near things the things Tate dearly values, which are his dog bowl, with or without food in it, or his Daddy!

When allowed to play with no food around, these two are best buddies. But Tate is, at heart, a resource guarder, because sadly he was a semi-rescue, where he did not have enough resources as a young pup. He is now 17 months old, neutered, up to date on all vaccines, housebroken and crate trained, but we feel he would work out best in an only dog home, where he wouldn’t have to share his food or his people.

Loves retrieving balls, and doesn’t seem to have a problem sharing balls and toys. Tate is very bright and he bonds quickly, very loving. Was not raised with children, so just to be on the safe side, no small children since they might not understand his issue of “carrying on” when another dog walks by his crate when he has a bone or a food bowl in the crate. He has never snapped at a human or broken skin when he gets wound up with Brodie, our other male dog, but his trash talking can sound pretty intense so we feel better safe than sorry, as far as preferring an only dog home for him. His favorite person is his human Dad and he has once or twice growled when our other dogs try to push in when he is right beside Daddy.

Tate’s breeder doesn’t guarantee her dogs and is supposedly getting out of dogs, but we will take responsibility for this boy for life, if for any reason he should ever need to be rehomed, he can come back to us—but of course we are looking for a FOREVER HOME for this sweet boy!

Tate does not come from show lines, but is AKC registered and we did DNA testing to rule out health issues (all clear on DNA testing) but since he will not be used for breeding, he has not had further testing and he has been neutered. He is medium sized, at fifty pounds. We want him to have a loving pet home.

If you have serious interest in a Meet and Greet, or have further questions,  just email me at knowingdogs@gmail.com and put “Tate” in the subject line. We are located in Oak Ridge, North Carolina.  There will be a modest adoption fee, and all applicants must have a fenced yard, and have excellent references. He needs an home where he will not be left alone for long periods of time.  Our goal is a home that will be perfect match so Tate can be the extra special, loved family member he was created to be!
