Joey's Journal - August 12, 2011

Hi Everyone!

Guess what I learned today?!!! Sydney taught me how to run at the deer real fast and scare them away . . . it was the MOST fun!!!
I want to get up on the big platform now but I still need a little help. The three platform stairs go around a corner and are each about 10" apart as they get taller. Mom says I'm not big enough to use them yet. However, I can easily go in and out of the little house once I'm up there.

I'm getting stronger every day and can get up on all sorts of things now -- and off too. The kitchen counter is my ultimate goal.

It's REALLY hot here today -- so Mom gave me a bowl of ice cubes to play with. WoW - was that fun! I'd grab an ice cube and go tearing through the house with it. Then, I'd toss it up in the air and pounce on it when it fell. Mom tried to get a picture but I was moving too fast.

Then I helped Mom change the sheets. Mom says she doesn't know how she ever got along without me.

Oh, meant to tell you -- I have the sole job of getting the newspaper now -- Sydney is always off looking for cats. In the second picture, I've learned how to "Go Around" -- one of the things Mom and Dad use this for is when I'm on one side of something and they are on the other, they can tell me to "Go Around" and I know to go away from them and continue to a place where I can go around and come to them on their side.

Dad is really fun to play with!! I don't really bite; however, my little razor-sharp teeth sometimes snag on Dad's skin. See all the sore places.
Oh, Grandmama Sue, Dad has a suggestion for you. He says it would be a good idea for you to put styptic pencils in with your new-owner puppy kits!

Introducing Joey's Journal

When I introduced you to Joey, I promised that you would hear from him soon! It took me a day or two to figure out how to transfer his photos, but that is all resolved so now I can easily share Joey's adventures with you. Joey's family includes two other Poodles, Jyah, age 11 and Sydney, age 10. Joey often mentions them in his journal and is even kind enough to allow them to be in some of his photo shoots.

Joey's Journal - August 11, 2011

Hello all ~~ good news ~~ Jyah seems to feel a little better every day, and he's drinking and eating normally (for him) now.

So, after breakfast this morning (see how good I am eating next to Jyah), we all went to PetSmart where Mom showed me about "reading."
After PetSmart (here, Mom's telling me about "parakeets"), Mom and Dad ate lunch at Qdido's where it was about 85 degrees in the shade.
See how Sydney is playing with me now? But, when she got my toy, she lay down and growled every time I came near her.
Mom and Dad are teaching me to "retrieve" . . . every time one gives me something and I take it to the other, I get a cookie. Sweet deal!!!

Below, Sydney is allowing me to sit next to her. Isn't that great?!!

Oh, did I ever show you Dad's "big" truck?
Love,
Joey

Isn't He Lovely?

Donna Trebert, who has shared photos of her Poodles on the blog in the past (see her interview under the Poodle Health link) was going through and scanning her photos when she came across one of her boy Tyler as a pup. He was such a gorgeous pup I thought you might enjoy seeing the photo too!

WARNING: Viewing this photo can definitely increase your risk of contracting MPS (multiple Poodle syndrome).

Meet Joey, the Journal writing Poodle pup!

I want to introduce you to Joey, the newest addition to the Dunlap household. Charlene and Glenn Dunlap are very talented photographers so it is always fun to go to their website and see photos of their dogs, as well as reading about their training for Poodle movies. Their other two Standards, Jyah and Sydney, are trained to do all types of amazing behaviors which are featured in Poodle movies.I am sure that Joey will soon also be a movie star!

If you have never seen one of these Poodle movies, you are missing a treat. They are different from other movies featuring dogs, because the characters the dogs play are so believable. This is because when you see the dogs doing something, whether it is setting the table, or walking a tightrope, they truly are doing these things, it is not a camera trick! You can see video clips, or even view a short movie for free on Charlene's website, Canine Horizons.

Recently I learned of "Joey's journal" where this talented young pup(smile) keeps his friends updated of his daily adventures. Charlene has generously agreed to allow me to share some of Joey's adventures with you, so stay tuned!

In the photo above, Joey is on the left, Jyah on the right. And if you look closely, you'll even get a peek at their Dad Glenn (who is usually behind the camera!)

Anyone for a Walk?

Houdini obviously doesn't mind the hot weather, and will fetch his own retractable lead if needed in order to encourage his owner to get up early for the morning walk!

Thanks to Rick Miles for this photo of Houdini. Taking photos of "Poodle joy" moments is Rick's specialty!

Chris L'Abbe sent me this photo of her daughter Abby and dog Murray--Abby has the right idea of what to do to combat this current heat wave!

It's Boating Time!

Remember, our Poodles were originally developed to be water retrievers! Most love the water, whether they are out on a cruise or taking a swim! Thanks so much to Rick Miles for this photo of Sunny, owned and loved by Ann Burchill of Upton MA.
